100th Anniversary of Tour de France

100th Anniversary of Tour de France

La Poste issued a bloc of 7 stamps celebrating the 100th anniversary of Tour de France, the most famous bicycle race annually held in France.

Here we are celebrating the hundredth edition of the cycling loop founded in the early 20th century by Henri Desgrange. What was initiated then as a foolish bet has evolved over time into a world-class event, which combines both sport and celebration.

This hundredth edition wanted to focus on the territories, cities and exceptional natural sites that have hosted and marveled people involved in Tour de France. Several millions of enthusiasts scattered along the 3360km route as well as viewers from 190 countries receiving the images of the race will hail the athletes.

Corsica, first step of the race (for the first time included in Tour), the Albi Cathedral, Mont Saint-Michel, Versailles castle – these are this year's impressive landscapes of Tour de France always rich in traditions and innovations. And finally Paris, the city which is conquered after so many sacrifices, will offer a new eventful final and will discover a new yellow jersey.
