Arts and Crafts in Slovenia – a special stamp released by Slovenia Post

Slovenia Post has released a special stamp on theme “Arts and Crafts”. This beautiful item celebrates the creative work of one of the greatest Slovenian porcelain artists Nika Stupica. She occupies a special place in Slovenia’s contemporary arts and crafts scene. Designed by Polonca Peterca, the stamp shows the set of beautiful porcelain wares featuring beautiful polka-dot pattern. Let’s take a look at this interesting philatelic item and at other art and crafts stamp issues.

Nika Stupica has always had a desire to create. When she was little, she created figurines from clay that she had gathered in a nearby creek and then baked them in a wood oven. She developed the Kaolin company from a small ceramic studio of a Slovene ceramic. In her workshop she mostly creates translucent, white and delicate porcelain, high fired ceramics and porcelain jewellery. The clean shapes and forms of her porcelain ware, are uncluttered by unnecessary details. To these basic pure forms she carefully adds various “graphisms” in the form of dots or lines. The surface of the piece is hand decorated and hand painted by the artist herself.
