Astronomical phenomena fascinate people from the very beginning of mankind up to today. They have an enthusiastic effect, especially on the youth. To help people understand the astronomical phenomena, Chunghwa Post has introduced a set of four stamps featuring the most amazing and well-known phenomena.
The first stamp features a solar eclipse. It occurs when the moon gets between Earth and the sun, and the moon casts a shadow over Earth. The second item depicts a comet that is a rock covered in ice, methane and other compounds. It goes around the Sun in a highly elliptical orbit.
The third stamp features a total solar eclipse. It occurs when the new Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, and totally blocks out the Sun. Such an eclipse usually only lasts a few minutes. The fourth item depicts a total lunar eclipse. It takes place when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Full Moon and blocks the Sun's direct rays from lighting up the Moon.
