David Feldman sells the Black Empress of Canada for $473,000!

David Feldman is going to conduct the 23rd Rarities of the World Sale that has a special meaning as it will support Médecins Sans Frontières to fight the COVID-19 around the world. This charitable auction provides clients with an opportunity to make their own contribution to help mitigate the impact of the virus. It will be held in Geneva from November 30th to December 4th, 2020.

The star of this auction is the "Black Empress", a "Mona Lisa" of philately, 1851 12-penny black Queen Victoria stamp that is listed with an estimate of €250,000 to €400,000 (approximately $295,600 to $473,000).

This classic stamp is described by Feldman as “the renowned and legendary mint example of this world class rarity, in an incomparable state of preservation, graced by its overall great freshness, very good impression also confirmed by an outstanding colour, with pristine gum which has been never hinged, very large and balanced margins all around…”

The stamp was assigned a grade of Superb 98 by the Philatelic Foundation and is accompanied by the 2010 Foundation certificate, as well as a 1965 Sissons certificate.
