Isle of Man's contribution to watchmaking celebrated with 6 stamps!

The Isle of Man is home to the producer of some of the finest watches and timepieces in the world. The Post Office introduced to collectors’ attention a collection of six stamps featuring three remarkable master watchmakers who are inextricably linked to the Isle of Man. Each of the stamps feature a gold metallic ink to luxuriously highlight the sense of craftsman-made jewellery. The text appeared on the items was provided by multiple experts in watchmaking.

The stamps showcase both the Master Watchmaker portrayed and their most famous, significant and iconic contribution to the world of horology. The issue honors such watchmakers as John Harwood (inventor of the self-winding watch), George Daniels (English horologist considered the best watchmaker during his lifetime), and Roger W. Smith (independent luxury watchmaker).

Dr Roger W Smith OBE, whose headquarters are located in Ramsey, writes – “There is no doubt that, through history watch and clockmakers from the British Isles have contributed the vast majority of inventions which allow us to keep time. In fact more than 75% of all the inventions which make today’s wristwatches function in the most convenient and accurate way are British and it’s notable that the Isle of Man has played an important role in that discovery.”
