Legendary race cars – two stamps introduced by Monaco Post

Auto racing has existed since the invention of the automobile. The two most popular varieties of open wheel road racing are Formula One and the IndyCar Series. With well more than a century of motorsports action, there have been a lot of great race cars. Monaco Post introduced two great stamps featuring such legendary race cars as BRM P57 and Renault RS01. The issue was designed by Fabrice Monaci.

The first stamp shows BRM P57 that was the fifth Formula 1 car designed by British Racing Motors. Following on from the P48, the 1962 BRM P57 was successful in its first competitive outing. The car won four races in its first season, helping Graham Hill to secure his first world championship title. The second stamp features Renault RS01, which is a racing car manufactured by Renault Sport. This is the most powerful one-make racer built by Renault, and is the only one that is not based on a production car. The ground-breaking Renault RS01, a yellow car powered by a 1.5 litre V6 turbo, made its debut at the British Grand Prix, driven by Jean-Pierre Jabouille.
