Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpieces appeared on four Gibraltar stamps

Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian polymath of the Renaissance period. Many historians and scholars regard Leonardo as one of the most diversely talented individuals to have ever lived. To mark the 500th anniversary of the death of this genius Gibraltar Post prepared of a set of four stamps. Designed by Gibraltarian graphics artist Mr Stephen Perera, this beautiful issue depicts Leonardo's most famous pictures.

The 70p stamp features St. John the Baptist, 1513-16 that is an oil painting produced between 1513 and 1516. The 80p item shows Virgin of the Rocks, 1483-86 painting that depicts the Madonna and child Jesus with the infant John the Baptist and an angel, in a rocky setting which gives the paintings their usual name.

The £2.86 shows The Last Supper, 1495-98 painting that is one of the Western world's most recognizable paintings. It represents the scene of the Last Supper of Jesus with his apostles, as it is told in the Gospel of John, 13:21. And the stamp with the face value of £3.46 features Mona Lisa, 1503 that is the most famous and perhaps most mysterious portrait in the world.
