Rare item of Finnish Postal Stationery has been sold for US$25,000. Latest auction news is to your attention

FindYourStampsValue.com would like to share a piece of news from the world of philately with our devoted readers. This one concerns one of the rarest Finnish Postal stationary items that have stared at Cherrystone auction recently and has grabbed attention of a great number of stamp collectors from around the world.

This is a rare unused Finnish 1845 20k rose envelope that was among the star lots of a postage stamp sale at Cherrystone Auctionson August 9, achieving US$25,000. The coat of arms at the bottom left reads 'Porto Stempo' ‒ German for 'Postage Stamp'

The lot predates the first adhesive Finnish stamp by 11 years.

It was issued while the country was under the control of the Russian empire and known as the Grand Duchy of Finland. Very few are known in complete and unused condition, with this example described as being in an excellent state.
