Royal Mail introduced six Gruffalo stamps!

Royal Mail presented a monstrously magical set of six special stamps with beautiful illustrations celebrating a classic tale “The Gruffalo” that has been a family favourite for 20 years. This is Julia Donaldon's best-selling book that was written in 1999. The Gruffalo was the UK's best-selling picture book of 2000 and was voted the Best Bedtime Story in 2009. The illustrations for this bright philatelic release were created by y Axel Scheffler.

Philip Parker from the Royal Mail said: "We are delighted that Axel has taken us back to the deep, dark wood with his new illustrations of the much-loved characters."

The Gruffalo is one of the world’s best-loved monsters. Since it was first published in 1999, the award-winning story of his encounter with the little brown mouse in the deep dark wood has continued to delight children and adults the world over. The Gruffalo is a modern classic, and both mouse and monster have become stars of stage and screen as well as story-time favourites.

The book soon gained immense popularity, becoming an international bestseller in the process and selling around 13 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 81 different languages. Not restricted to a printed children’s book, The Gruffalo has spread over the years into other areas such as collectible coins, a featured film amongst other merchandise and collectibles.
