Sweden, Germany commemorate Astrid Lindgren with stamp

Sweden and Germany will honor children's book author Astrid Lindgren with commemorative stamps to mark the centennial of her birth.

The stamps will show Lindgren, who died in 2002 at age 94, flanked by one of her most well-known characters, the mischievous farmer boy Emil.

Lindgren, born in Sweden in 1907, captivated generations of children around the world with colorful characters including the freckled Pippi Longstocking, Karlsson-On-the-Roof and Emil in Lonneberga. Her books were translated in 88 languages.

Sweden's postal service commemorated Lindgren with a set of stamps after she died on Jan. 28, 2002.
