
A series of stamps "This is Belgium" is dedicated to famous Belgian scientists whose names became symbols of the country: Peter Carmeliet (molecular medicine) was the first who made in 1543 a picture of human's vascular system, the microbiologist Lise Thiry created a scheme of AIDS virus, the scientist Paul Janssen discovered the molecular structure of a new AIDS medicine, Chris Van de Wyngaert (international penal law), Philippe Van Parijs (philosophy of the social justice), Pierre Rene Deligne (mathematician), Marc Van Montagu (molecular genetics), Andre Berger (climatology).
