Cyprus Post released its special "Aeroplanes" commemorative series of three items that are devoted to three landmark points in the history of this flying vehicle: the first recorded flight, the first solo transatlantic flight, and the first manned supersonic flight.
The first item is devoted to the first recorded flight that was registered on 17 December 1903: the Wright brothers, who produced bicycles, flew the first aeroplane. This flight lasted only 12 seconds covering 37 meters. This was the first controlled motor flight with a plane heavier than air.
The second stamp is dedicated to the first solo transatlantic flight made by Charles Lindberg in 1927. While being completely alone, Charles Lindberg covered a distance of 5,800 km. And the first manned supersonic flight happened in 1947. Piloted by Charles Yeager, the vehicle reached the speed of 1,127 kilometers per hour.
