"Dragon and Lion Dance" – four cultural heritage stamps issued by HongKong Post

HongKong Post introduced four special stamps on local intangible cultural heritages, including the dragon and lion dance, to get people acquainted with the most important cultural gems. With vivid brushstrokes, the illustrations on the items convey the charm of these local customs, aiming to promote awareness and preservation of the nation’s priceless intangible cultural heritage.

The stamp with the face value of $2 shows a lion dance that can be often seen on various festivals and celebrations. Nowadays this is a recreation and sports event, as well as a kind of performing art that combines martial arts and dance. The second stamp with the face value of $3.70 features pixiu dance, which can bring fortune and dispel evil. This dance is often performed to celebrate birthdays or other holidays.

The item with the face of $4.90 displays the Hakka unicorn dance in Hang Hau of Sai Kung, which is often performed in religious rituals and in traditional ceremonies for the solidarity. And the last stamp with the face value of $5 depicts the dragon dance, which is an important part of customary celebrations of clans and rural organizations in the New Territories. Today this kind of dance is regarded as an internationally famous performance.
