Five new Canadian stamps feature snow mammals!

Canada Post released five captivating stamps, the theme of which is Canada’s wildlife. These five items feature the beauty of snow mammals that reside in Canada and adapted to surviving the snowy winter weather of the country by turning their dark fur into white. The issue was designed by Adrian Horvath and the photos of animals were taken by different photographers like Robert Postma, Michelle Valberg, Dennis Fast, Mathilde Poirier, and Paul Loewen.

The issue showcases such animals as the ermine, snowshoe hare, Arctic fox, northern collared lemming, and Peary Caribou. They are “professionals” in camouflage that makes them almost impossible to spot in their natural habitats, especially in winter. The predators need such masking for sneaking up on their prey. Whereas herbivores need this camouflage to avoid being detected. These animals are five among 19 species of mammals that have such an ability. They can change the color of their fur twice a year: in spring (dark fur) and winter (white fur).
