
Guernsey Post celebrated Frances Hodgson Burnett’s “The Secret Garden” with six beautiful stamps that feature the illustrations from the original novel. This captivating piece of literature tells the amazing story of an orphaned girl Mary who is forced to move from India to England.
Frances Hodgson Burnett is a famous Anglo-American writer, author of such significant children’s books as "Little Lord Fauntleroy" and "Dance Garden". She was born in 1849 in Manchester, England. At the age of 18, she lost her mother and took on the task of raising four younger brothers. The heroes of Burnett's novels are ordinary children and adolescents with their sorrows and joys. The writer's books were included in the golden fund of world children's literature.
Bridget Yabsley, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post, said: - “Hodgson Burnett’s coming-of-age novel The Secret Garden is widely considered to be her masterpiece. We are delighted to celebrate its success and popularity over 100 years after it was first published in book form.”
