Guernsey Post honors Ludwig van Beethoven with a great stamp!

Guernsey Post honors Ludwig van Beethoven with a great stamp!

Guernsey Post issued a special stamp to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of the highly acclaimed composer Ludwig van Beethoven, who was born in Bonn, Germany, in 1770. Over the course of the year the Post Office is planning to release four stamps to honour this great personality. The first issue shows a large bronze statue of Beethoven, which stands on the Munsterplatz in Bonn, Beethoven's birthplace.

In 2020, the world will celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday. He is believed to be the most frequently performed classical music composer in the world - and certainly one of the most influential. Beethoven may be most famous for his nine symphonies, but he also wrote many other kinds of music: chamber and choral music, piano music and string quartets, and an opera. He wrote seven concerti for one or more soloists and orchestra, as well as four shorter works that include soloists accompanied by orchestra. His only opera is Fidelio; other vocal works with orchestral accompaniment include two masses and a number of shorter works.
