Jersey Post honors Claude Cahun with eight stamps!

Claude Cahun - a French photographer, sculptor and writer – is being honored with eight black-and-white stamps introduced by Jersey Post. The issue features eight of Cahun's photographs, showcasing her work over the decades. The 80p stamp carries the logo of SEPAC, the Small European Postal Administration Co-Operation, and forms part of a joint stamp issue entitled Art in the National Collection.

Born Lucie Renee Mathilde Schwob, Claude made a name for herself by creating some of the most original and enigmatic photographic images of the twentieth century. She is best known for her androgynous self-portraits and for creating enigmatic photographic images of the twentieth century, which focus on the themes of identity, gender and the subconscious mind. Claude’s links with Jersey are strong, beginning In 1937 when she moved to Jersey with her partner, Marcel. Claude lived in Jersey until her death in 1954 and is buried in St Brelade’s Church in the west of the Island.
