Liechtenstein Post celebrates Christmas with 4 new stamps

Liechtenstein Post celebrates Christmas with 4 new stamps

Liechtenstein Post presented four bright festive stamps to celebrate the upcoming Christmas. The design of this year`s Christmas philatelic items was created by Manfred Näscher - the winner of the second prize in a design competition hosted among Liechtenstein artists abroad.  Famous for his unusual watercolors and drawings Manfred Naescher grew up in the principality of Lichtenstein, but he currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

Christmas in Liechtenstein is a special season for the people of Liechtenstein. It is the time for family get together and warm greetings. In Liechtenstein, the Christmas season starts around December 6th or 7th. In Liechtenstein it is an angel, the Christkindl, and not Santa Claus who makes the gifts magically appear under the Christmas tree.

According to the story, the legend of which began in the third century, Three Wise Men or Three Kings from the east followed a bright start to Bethlehem where they found baby Jesus. To create this year`s bright Christmas stamps Manfred Naescher decided to depict four digitally produced scenes from the Christmas story resembling wood engraving. As the result such stamps were produced:  “The Wise Men from the East”, “The Star Shows the Way”, “Peace on Earth” and “Birth of Jesus”. The peculiarity of this issue is that when the four sheets are placed side by side in increasing value, the colour progression becomes apparent.
