November 8, 2023: Upcoming Robert A. Siegel stamp auction

Robert A. Siegel is organizing an upcoming auction for the Nathanael Greene Collection, which will feature a captivating selection of stamps. This assortment includes stamps from both the United States and China, and we have come across some particularly fascinating pieces that will be available for sale.

Curtiss Jenny Grounded Plane 24c stamps

The unique Curtiss Jenny Grounded Plane stamps, featuring airplanes with wheels in error go through the word "Cents". This stamp comes from fragments of three separate sheets. One of them was occasionally found and subsequently divided by J. Klemann. Another was discovered in 1946 and later sold on November 4, 1964. In Linn's Stamp News dated April 21, 1986, specialist Joseph R. Kirker Jr. shared his research, uncovering a third source. The offered example here is exceptionally rare. It comes with a 2023 P.S.E. (Professional Stamp Experts) certificate, graded XF-Superb 95, and is the only Mint N.H. instance of this variety assessed by P.S.E. Other graded versions include one with a hinge graded at 98 (recently included in our "Vaquero" auction), one graded at 85, and another graded at 80. Starting price: $7,500.
