Postiljonen offers the block of four 1863 16sk violet stamps for $59,471!

Postiljonen is going to conduct its next 3-day day sale on March 25-27. This auction will introduce to collectors’ attention a great variety of interesting philatelic items, including a vast array of Scandinavian stamps, covers, large lots and collections, as well as multiple lots from other European countries. One of the most worthiest lots offered in this auction is the largest known used multiple of Denmark’s 1863 16-skilling violet stamps with roulette separations.

The rouletted 1863 16sk violet stamp with a Royal Emblems design from Denmark is being sold as a used block of four. In addition, this is the largest used multiple of the issue, which is why it is highly pricy. The block also contains the position 31 stamp with the cliche flaw of a dent in left frameline. Postiljonen provided the following description of this lot: “The Unique 16 Skilling Block of Four The largest used and the only block of four recorded of the 16 skilling roulette 1863 position 21-22/31-32, position 31 with one of the four major cliche flaws dent in left frame line. Extremely beautiful with four well placed postmarks "60" RØDBY, a slight corner flaw of no importance. This was the favourite item of Christian Andersen, who owned many other spectacular rarities and it is the absolutely greatest item of this issue”.

The minimal bid for this block is €50,000 (or roughly $59,471).
