Recognising the legacy of Robin Boyd – a special stamp issued by Australia Post

Australia Post released a special stamp to mark 100 years since the birth of a real icon of Australian architecture - Robin Boyd. This outstanding personality was also active as writer, cultural commentator and educator in Australia from the late 1940s through the 50s and 60s. Designed by Jo Muré of the Australia Post Design Studio, the stamp features a photograph of the Walsh Street house, known as Boyd House II, which Boyd designed in 1957.

Through his writings Boyd inspired the general community and through his architecture he has become an acknowledged leader in the design and architectural professions. Walsh Street house or Boyd House II is a real architectural masterpiece that is now heritage-listed. Nowadays this beautiful building serves as “home” to the Robin Boyd Foundation. The organization was created in 2005 to preserve Boyd’s legacy and to continue to foster good design. The foundation also supports and hosts a great variety of cultural activities, such as an architectural film program, lectures, intimate musical events and the like.

Walsh Street house remains unchanged from the time it was first designed and occupied by the Boyd Family in 1959. Take a look at other fascinating architecture stamps.
