San Marino Post honors a revolutionary Anita Garibaldi with a stamp!

San Marino Post released a stamp to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Anita Garibaldi.  She was a famous female revolutionary figure with strong character features. In 1849, Anita Garibaldi and her husband Giuseppe Garibaldi found their refuge in San Marino. The stamp shows a portrait of Anita Garibaldi adorned with roses that symbolize such values as fidelity, moral integrity, respect for people, love for motherland, etc.

Anita Garibaldi was a member of the national liberation struggle of the Italian people, wife, and military associate J. Garibaldi. She met her future husband in 1839 during the liberation war of the South American Republic of Rio Grande; together with J. Garibaldi Anita participated in partisan battles in South America. In December 1847, together with her children, she went to her husband's homeland - to Italy. During the Revolution of 1848-1849, Anita Garibaldi fought as an officer in the detachment of J. Garibaldi during the defense of the Roman Republic. She died during a campaign when the Garibaldians tried to break through to the Republic of Venice after the fall of Rome.
