The year 2019 marks the reign of the Pig and the twelfth animal in the Zodiac Series on the Chinese calendar. Singapore Post has designed a set of three beautiful stamps to celebrate this important event. Designed by Leo Teck Chong, the stamps feature the warm-hearted, good-tempered and gentle Pig. Two items depict one pig each, and the third one features two pigs looking in different directions. Let`s take a closer look at this beautiful set of stamps, as well as at other Year of the Pig philatelic issues.
The Pig is the twelfth of all zodiac animals. The Chinese zodiacs’ order was chosen by the Jade Emperor through a race. According to the myths, the Pig was the last to arrive when the Jade Emperor called for the great meeting. Another story says that a wolf destroyed pig's house. He had to rebuild his home before he could set off. When he arrived, he was the last one and could only take twelfth place. In Chinese culture, this mild and lucky animal is a symbol of wealth and represents carefree fun. Their chubby faces and big ears are signs of fortune as well.
