In 2024, two species of frogs happened to be at the extinction line. Because of this, Canada Post has released the stamps in order to attract the attention of people.
Their problems are caused by some invasive species, human activity, and air pollution. This stamp reminds everyone to protect wild nature.
Fowler's toad stamp
This toad inhabits the northeast of the US and Canada. These amphibians live in forests, fields, and wetlands. Their typical color is brown or gray, with dark blotches and a white belly.
Fowler's toad is famous for its call, which sounds like a high-pitched trill. Typically, these toads can be heard during the breeding season. The frogs are of moderate size; adult species grow around 2–3 inches.
Unfortunately, their populations have been declining for the last 10 years. Efforts are made to save these unique amphibians and ensure their survival, as these toads are valuable for the ecosystem.
Oregon spotted frog stamp
This frog can be identified by a spotted pattern on its back, ranging from brown to green, which allows it to perfectly camouflage in the habitat. The Oregon spotted frog prefers ponds and slow-moving streams with thick vegetation. It feeds on insects, small invertebrates, or sometimes even frogs that are smaller.
Historically, their population has significantly declined because of bullfrog invasions. Moreover, agricultural draining as well as urban expansion have imposed further threats on them. The Canadian government is trying to restore their habitats to ensure their survival.
