The art of brewing is almost as old as human civilization itself and is a key part of Swiss culture. With around 140 new microbreweries launched in the last two years alone, Switzerland now has more craft beer brewers than ever before. At the moment, beer is particularly fashionable. That is the reason why Swiss Post issued two special stamps dedicated to this beverage and its master brewers.
“Beer is an alcoholic, carbonated drink made of water, malted grain, yeast, hops and other ingredients, produced through the alcoholic fermentation process,” according to the Swiss Ordinance on Beverages. But beer is so much more than that. Many people see it as the epitome of conviviality and pleasure. For some time now, beer has been enjoying a boom. There are now over 900 Swiss breweries in operation. This means Switzerland has one of the greatest concentrations of breweries in the world. Brewing your very own beer at home has even become a hobby.
