The Lord of the Rings marked with six new stamps by New Zealand Post!

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”, which was produced in 2001, New Zealand Post issued a set of spectacular stamps. The issue is an impressive addition to the philatelic released introduced by NZ Post to mark the beginning of the popular movie series in 2001.

These new 20th anniversary stamps show original paintings by Wellington artist Sacha Lees, who worked as an illustrator, sculptor and concept artist on the famous trilogy.

Each item is devoted to one of the key moments of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”.

$1.50 The Journey Begins stamp illustrates a well-known scene when Gandalf rides up to meet Bilbo at Bag End.  $1.50 Hiding from the Black Rider stamp shows Frodo and Sam who began their burdensome mission of destroying the One Ring. $1.50 The Prancing Pony stamp features Frodo and his hobbit friends Sam, Pippin and Merry sipping ale at the Prancing Pony in Bree, where they first gathered in Aragorn.

$2.80 Flight to the Ford is devoted to the scene after a Black Rider stabbed Frodo. It also showcases Arwen the elven princess galloping on her horse through a prairie and a wood to the safety of a river. $3.60 The Bridge of Khazad-dum shows Gandalf in the labyrinth the Mines of Moria crying ‘You shall not pass’ to the fire-breathing Balrog. $4.10 The Gates of Argonath item features the fellowship on the River Anduin passing two gigantic stone statues defending the northern border of Gondor.
