World Heritage Site stamp from Germany

The German Post has issued a stamp commemorating the Biertan Church, one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Biertan is a rural community in the Transylvanian county of Sibiu. The church in its present form was built at the beginning of the 16th century on the ruins of an earlier church built at least one hundred years earlier and secured with walls against enemy. Biertan was then a major center for trade, crafts and wine. Each tower is connected with its rich history.

In 1993 the church of Bertan castle has entered in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is still an attraction for tourists from all over the world.
