500th birth anniversary of Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis commemorated by Lithuania Post
According to info received by FindYourStampsValue.com Lithuania Post has released a special stamp commemorating the 500th birth anniversary of Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis, the nobleman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The stamp designed by the artist Domantas Vildžiūnas features the nobleman's portrait in the background of a historical map of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis or Mikalojus Radvila the Black (born 1515, died 1565) is a noble of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and reformation activist.
He was one of the most educated figures in Lithuania who protected the integrity of the Duchy and its political independence. Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis corresponded with John Calvin and established an Evangelical Reformed Church Unitas Lithuaniae.
Also, he established a printing house to print protestant writings. Within the years 1551-1565, Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis served as a regional governor vaivada of Vilnius.
