50th Anniversary of the Paris International Agricultural Show
La Poste issued a stamp celebrating the half-century of the International Agricultural Show, the largest agricultural event in France.
The 50th International Agricultural Show is to be held in Paris at the Porte de Versailles from 23 February to 3 March 2013. The first Paris International Agricultural Exhibition opened its doors in 1964 and welcomed 300,000 visitors. It has become the largest event of French agriculture, increasingly popular with more than 680,000 visitors including general public and professionals.
This Show is a demonstration and showcase of French selection and breeding. The finest specimens are presented and rewarded. Local products, gastronomy, green tourism and environmental protection also have place.
More than 3,500 animals are present on this year's anniversary and over 1900 breeders will participate in the national competition.
This stamp was created by the cartoonist Jacques de Loustal and presents the seven species of animals present at the show (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, donkeys and dogs).
