Bethlehem Post Office raises Christmas mood with its festive stamps (VIDEO)

December 22nd, 2014 got to know that in the little town of Bethlehem, there’s a little post office that provides festive stamps to raise citizens' Christmas mood. It’s in Litchfield County, but folks with Christmas on their minds come from everywhere.

Barbara Higgins has been going there for over 20 years, just to use the stamps, all the way from Bridgeport.

“It says ‘Bethlehem’ on the stamp, and you get to pick out what you like. It’s nice,” she said.
It’s one thing to have your holiday cards come from ‘Bethelhem,’ but to have these stamps, it’s an extra added touch you can`t get anywhere else.

“It’s the simplicity of it all – it doesn’t get lost in the commercialism of Christmas,” said Deloris Little, postmaster.
The tradition started 78 years ago, thanks to postmaster Earl Johnson. Since then there are 78 different cachets. You come in and you can choose any one of the 78 for your Christmas cards.

There’s a contest every year to pick the new stamp. Last years stamp remembered the Newtown tragedy. This year it’s a picture of Jesus in the manger.

“It’s been a tradition. You’ll meet people who have done it , their grandchildren are doing it  and tradition lives on,” said Little.
The stamps are all out for guests to cancel their holiday cards – for free – all you have to do is travel to Bethlehem, and be in holiday spirit.
