Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 11.01am on April, 23. The baby weighed 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

The stamp issued by Australia Post features the duchess wearing a striking, raspberry-red dress, who cradles her baby as the couple receives congratulations from well-wishers. Wrapped in a white blanket and wearing a white hat, the baby appears to be sleeping.

A notice about the prince`s birth was placed on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace following the announcement. It is tradition that a framed notice of birth goes on display on a ceremonial easel on the forecourt at the Palace. Notices have been posted on the occasion of a Royal birth for at least as long as Buckingham Palace has been the Sovereign’s official residence (from 1837).
