Chinese Monkey year is on the threshold! New festive stamp introduced by Slovenia Post

The word "monkey" (hóu ) was first written using a character meaning to wait, watch, observe (hòu). The ancients wrote that monkeys do not fall upon food the moment they see it, but first study the surrounding area carefully. Only when they have thoroughly examined the whole situation and judged the environment to be safe, do they reach for the food. hurries to introduce to our readers' attention a special stamp issue by Slovenia Post that celebrates the Chinese Monkey year.

An alternative character for monkey was a character that also meant "marquis" (hóu 侯). This was the second of five noble ranks. The conferral of the rank of marquis was a lucky and important event, which consequently further enhanced the positive connotation of the word "monkey". People, in fact, began to connect it with success.

Later on, the radical (犭) was added to the character for monkey. This is a semantic component indicating a large animal. This character is still used today.

The monkey occupies the ninth position on the Chinese zodiac. People born under the sign of the Monkey are said to be clever, inventive all-rounders.
