Christmas as a time for supporting each other! A philatelic campaign to help people with sight loss…
The Christmas season is a good time to start thinking about helping other people to enable them to experience the joy of the Christmas Season.
FindYourStampsValue.com encourages all stamp collectors to give warmth, love and hope to others with this special philatelic campaign. That’s what Christmas should be all about.
Terri Bush, from Benfleet, is leading the Royal National Institute of Blind People's Christmas Stamp Appeal to raise vital funds for blind and partially sighted people.
The campaign encourages residents to donate used stamps from their Christmas cards and parcels. RNIB in turn receives £10 per kg for British stamps and £15 for foreign ones Last year's appeal raised more than £24,000 to help RNIB provide a range of services including its helpline, Talking Books and the Emotional Support service for newly diagnosed blind people.
Terri Bush, RNIB's Volunteer Stamp Appeal Co-ordinator, has collected stamps for more than 20 years and says the campaign has raised around £100,000.
She said: "With 1.7 billion cards sent each year the scope to raise vital funds from used stamps is massive.
"Any amount of used stamps, large or small, is appreciated and will really go a long way to helping RNIB deliver first class services for blind and partially sighted people this Christmas and throughout the year.
"Getting involved is easy, so there really is no excuse not to get stuck in by sending us your stamps".
The RNIB says that the value of each individual stamp does not matter – what is important is volume and weight to be converted into much-needed cash.
It is thought there are around 45,000 affected by site loss in Essex, and around 2 million people nationwide.
