Hieronymus Bosch as the most extraordinary and famous Netherlandish painter. 10 Beautiful artistic stamps unveiled by PostNL
Hieronymus Bosch is one of the most famous Netherlandish painters of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Many of his works depict sin and human moral failings. Bosch used images of demons, half-human animals and machines to evoke fear and confusion to portray the evil of man.
FindYourStampsValue.com hurries to introduce ten beautiful stamps depicting beautiful works by Hieronymus Bosch that commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of the painter.
"In the city of's-Hertogenbosch, the year 2016 will focus on Jhieronymus Bosch, because he has lived and worked there. I am therefore honored to be receiving these special stamps honouring the city's most famous resident. This issue highlights the significance of the artist Bosch, which we will be honoring from February onwards with the largest oeuvre exhibit at Het Noordbrabants Museum", says Mayor Rombouts.
Art history stamps
Ludo Voorn on the stamps: "It is a delight for PostNL to be able to issue stamps of work from this period in Dutch art history. And for me personally as a Bosschenaar to be able to present these stamps. Each individual stamp tells a story but together, the stamp sheet forms a whole. The edge of each stamp features a brief explanation, written by Jos Koldeweij, Professor of Medieval Art History at Radboud University Nijmegen and an expert on Bosch's work. Every letter sent with one of these stamps will tell a piece of the story of Jhieronymus Bosch's work".
'The Haywain Triptych' painting as a foundation
Designer Jeroen Hoedjes of Studio Kluif took The Haywain Triptych as the foundation for the stamp sheet. The design shows the painting's diverse, wonderful characters, who are depicted as 'heroes' on the various stamps. "I selected exactly ten significant scenes from the painting, making it seem like ten separate little paintings", says designer Jeroen Hoedjes.
