Prior to the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy, certain parts around Naples used a different currency, with the grano and tornese. The stamps issued on 14th February 1861 depicted Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia. One of the greatest philatelic items that appeared at this time is Italy ½ Tornese 1861 color error. The stamp was printed in black instead of green. The lot has all sides wide margins with full original gum. This printing error belongs to the all large rarities Europe and is only in very little copies having become known. The stamp offered by Christoph Gärtner is the most beautiful of the few known examples and a great Italian rarity.
