Janis Rozentāls as one of the best known Latvian painters… 150th anniversary of the great personality marked with a special block of 2 stamps

FindYourStampsValue.com is glad to inform all philately enthusiasts that Latvia Post celebrated the 150th anniversary of Janis Rozentāls with the release of a stamp block with two new stamps.

The scope of Rozentāls' activities was very wide, but painting was of paramount importance. He revealed the beauty of nature, demonstrated the integrity of man and nature gaining the popularity among people from around the world.

The visual design of the stamp block and the cover is based on the pictorial reproduction of J. Rozentāls' works of art to be found in the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art: Temptation (Kārdināšana) (circa 1901), Temptation (Kārdināšana) (1913), the drop curtain design for the theatrical presentation of Aspazija's play Vaidelote (circa 1909) and Daughters of Sun (Saules meitas) (circa 1912). Materials from the collection of the Information Center of the Art Academy of Latvia have also been used.

In Latvia, 2016 is the Year of Janis Rozentāls. The 150th anniversary of Janis Rozentāls is celebrated with an extensive and varied program across Latvia throughout 2016. J. Rozentāls is one of the founding fathers of the national school of painting and one of the Baltic art modernizers, who at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries brought Latvian professional art closer to the European level. UNESCO has included the artist's anniversary in the calendar of celebrations.
