“Kam to reikia?!“- a special philatelic project for schoolchildren

According to info received by Lithuania Post has joined the project "Kam to reikia?! " (What this is needed for?!) with an invitation to get better acquainted with postal activities. The schoolchildren of Rumšiškės Antanas Baranauskas Gymnasium were the first to test a non-traditional lesson.

The pupils of the gymnasium were told about Lithuania Post and were introduced to philately, one of the most interesting postal areas. The Head of Philatelic Department of Lithuania Post Ervinas Vaišnoras told to the 5th and 7th graders how postal stamps are designed and printed, and why collecting of postage stamps is one of the most interesting and involving activities that can be taken up before becoming a philatelist.

"Philately does not mean just collecting stamps. When collecting stamps, envelopes, marks of cancellations and etc., children gain more knowledge about history, art, geography, foreign languages, and the like. Also, such traits as accuracy and responsibility are developed. I do hope that the lessons were interesting and useful to the children, and at least a couple of them will take up philately", Mr Vaišnoras said after his first lesson.

The biology teacher Sandra Vimantienė expressed her joy that the children had an opportunity to get acquainted with a totally new and unfamiliar topic. "The term 'philately' is not very common, and children do not know much about it. That's nice that such companies as Lithuania Post have joined the project. I have no doubts that such lessons will enrich both the pupils and the teachers", Mrs Vimantienė said.
