Modern Russian art – Studio of military artists named after Grekov

StamNews.com is glad to introduce a series of stamps dedicated to Russian modern art, in particular Studio of military artists named after Grekov. The series consists of six stamps that were released on the 12th of December.

Studio named after Grekov was formed on November 29, 1934 on the base of separate cavalry unit as studio of amateur Red Army art. In 1935 it was named after initiator of studio formation ‒ outstanding painter of battle-pieces Mitrophan Grekov. For time of studio existence its members created unique artistic chronicle of Armed Forces of the country. During Great Patriotic war painters of studio went to battle-front, many of them along with army reached Prague, Warszawa, Budapest, Berlin.
