New stamps issue: “Europa 2018 – Bridges”. Two exquisite stamps introduced by Cyprus Post

June 1st, 2018

This year, the common theme adopted by the European postal organization PostEurop for its Europa 2018 issue is “Bridges”. is glad to present these two bright stamps by Cyprus Post specially issued for Europa 2018. They feature the Κelefos (Tzielefos) Bridge and the Akapnou Bridge. We would also like to invite everyone to appreciate other Europa 2018 stamps  and, of course, to vote for your favourite design.

So, the first item shows the Κelefos (Tzielefos) Bridge in the District of Pafos, a few kilometres away from Agios Nikolaos village, in an idyllic area full of plane trees and rich in wildlife and flora. Tzielefos bridge is of Venetian origins and is built on the Diarizos river, a river that has been called “barbarian” by the people, because of the great noise its waters make. This little medieval stone bridge is the biggest bridge in Cyprus constructed across this river.

The second stamp features the Akapnou Bridge in the District of Limassol. This little Venetian stone bridge has two arches and is located in the north-west of the Akapnou village, across a tributary of Vasilikos. According to the residents of the village, this beautiful bridge was built during the Venetian occupation. The construction has remained unaffected and was not changed by time. Tourists can even still see the foundations of the little road going from east to west.
