The stamp went into circulation as the 21st World Cup was set to begin in Russia. Poland's all-time top scorer, Lewandowski bagged a remarkable 16 goals from 10 games in his team’s World Cup qualifying campaign, setting a European qualifying record.

Poland Post said that the 29-year-old “has for years been one of the best strikers in the world and is the idol of young players and fans” as it rolled out five million copies of the stamp.

He is known for his accuracy and has been the leading goal scorer in his league matches.
