Personal Anniversaries – new stamp issue by Norway Post

July 7th, 2015 would like to introduce to our readers' attention two new stamps by Norway Post that celebrate the bicentenary of composer Halfdan Kjerulf's birth and the 100th anniversary of author Agnar Mykle's birth. The philatelic release was unveiled and put on sale on the 5th of June.

Agnar Mykle was a Norwegian author. He became one of the most controversial figures in Norwegian literature in the 20th century.

As an author, Mykle brought passion, love of beauty and the longing for closeness to Norwegian literature. His books appealed to men and women alike, but men particularly found in his writing the verbalization of their own longings and urges. It is safe to say the Mykle's books influenced the change in sexual attitudes in Scandinavia throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He hated publishers, puritanism and pompousness.

Halfdan Kjerulf was a Norwegian composer.

His fame rests mainly on his beautiful and manly national partsongs and solos. His piano music is equally charming. Edvard Grieg was an enthusiastic admirer of it and he was undoubtedly influenced by it in writing his Lyric Pieces. It was recorded in its entirety in 2001 by Einar Steen-Nøkleberg.
