Purple Heart Medal Honored on Forever U.S. Postage Stamp
A new "forever" stamp to honor wounded armed forces members was unveiled Thursday at the USS Midway Museum.
The Purple Heart With Ribbon stamp is only the second forever stamp, according to the U.S. Postal Service. The other one has a picture of the Liberty Bell.
"With the issuance of this stamp, the Postal Service, along with the rest of our nation, can pay tribute to those whose sacrifices have given all of us a country that is truly the land of the free and the home of the brave," said Ron Stroman, the deputy postmaster general.
Forever stamps can be used to mail a one-ounce letter at any time, even if postal prices rise.
The first Purple Heart stamp was released in 2003, but veterans organizations campaigned for the forever stamp so that it would remain in circulation.
