Royal Mail marks RAF centenary with Special Stamps. Ten original collectable stamps released
We are glad to let all collectors know that Royal Mail has introduced a set of ten stamps to celebrate the centenary of the creation of the Royal Air Force. These interesting stamps that have been given collectable status feature original artworks of the Sopwith Camel F1, Hurricane Mk 1, Vulcan B2, Lightning F6, Nimrod MR2 and Typhoon FGR4 by aviation artist Michael Turner. An additional four stamps show the world famous Red Arrows aerobatic display team in full flight.
The world's first independent air force, the Royal Air Force celebrates its centenary in 2018. During 100 years of its operation, the service has been involved in almost all conflicts and missions, giving the RAF the longest and most wide-ranging history of any air force in the world. The RAF fought over the Western Front in direct support of ground forces. It played a major role in conquering the Germans during the World War I. The RAF was also one of the key forces during the Second World War, defending the United Kingdom.
The RAF was also actively involved in the post-war era. For example, the RAF transport delivered humanitarian aid worldwide in the wake of natural disasters, be it famine, earthquake or hurricane. Royal Air Force has undergone cultural changes and reorganisations in recent years, including the introduction of women in the team. It continues to serve the world across the spectrum of air warfare today.
