Stamp issue on the first liver transplantation in India

According to info the Commemorative Postage stamp on Liver Transplantation in India was released on 4 November 2014 by the Department of Posts and Union Ministry of Communications & IT in New Delhi.

The release of a commemorative postage stamp acknowledges the progress and milestones achieved by the Indian medical fraternity in the field of Liver transplantation in the span of the last 15 years.

The first successful liver transplantation in India was performed at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi in November 1998. Since then, around 4500 such transplants have been done in the country.

Moreover, about 900 liver transplants are performed annually in India. This remarkable foray into organ transplantation has made India a global leader in the field by providing access to high quality and affordable transplant program.

India has innovated in the field of organ transplantation to provide access to a larger number of people in need of liver transplantation.
