June 25th, 2015

According to info received by, stamp collectors and Mickey Mouse fans in Shanghai woke up early on Saturday to buy the first Disney-themed stamps issued by China Post.

People were lined up for an entire block in front of stands in Jing'an Park in the morning. The first person in line arrived 12 hours before the stands opened.

China Post released its first Disney-themed stamp on June 20 following the first Chinese store the entertainment company opened in May.

The new stamp is valued at 1.2 yuan (about 19 cents). Easily recognizable and highly iconic, it includes a classical Mickey Mouse image alongside traditionally auspicious Chinese cloud shapes. The stamp also combines painted Chinese waves to mix the cultures of both Disney and Shanghai.

Its Chinese designer says he included many traditional Chinese elements.

“I used the classical three circles of Mickey Mouse and Chinese auspicious cloud. People can see from the first sight that it's a Chinese stamp. I also used colors such as gold and red to represent the best wishes", said Ni Qingfeng, the stamp designer.
An unlimited number of stamps will be sold at post offices around the city, but people were lined to get special envelopes and seals that were only available on the first day.

China Post also issued gold stamps, stamp collection books featuring Mickey and Minnie touring Shanghai, and Disney seals.

Every stamp has a face value of 1.2 yuan. Its Chinese designer says he included many traditional Chinese elements.
