U.S. Postal Service going 'pink' Friday

September 30th, 2010

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness for the entire month of October, the U.S. Postal Service will be getting their pink on Friday for a "Pink at the Post Office" event to promote the sale of the Breast Cancer semi-postal stamp.

The stamps sell for .55 cents and are good for first class postage.

The Breast Cancer Research stamp was the first semi-postal stamp in U.S. history when it was issued on July 29, 1998.

By law, 70 percent of the net amount raised from its sales goes to the National Institutes of Health and 30 percent goes to the Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense. More than 1 billion of the stamps have been sold to date, raising $70.7 million dollars for research.
