Universiade Gwangju 2015 celebrated by Korean Post

FindYourStampsValue.com is glad to inform that Korean post issued a set of stamps to commemorate a multi-sport event for young university students, the Universiade Gwangju 2015. The event was held for twelve days from July 3 to July 14 2015 in Gwangju, the city of peace. The issue was unveiled and put on sale on the 23d of June.

The Universiade is a sports and culture festival in which young university students – the leaders of the future – learn about leadership, consideration and respect for others, and the value of sacrifice and sharing through sports.

The event is officially known as XXVIII Summer Universiade Gwangju 2015 and is held over twelve days with thirteen compulsory sports and eight optional sports selected by the host city.

Some 20,000 student-athletes, coaching staff, and officials from 170 countries from around the world sent athletes to participate in various sports events such as Artistic Gymnastics, Athletics, Basketball, Diving, Fencing, Football, Judo, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo and optional sport events Archery, Badminton, Baseball, Golf, Handball, Rowing, Shooting Sport and Taekwondo.

Under the slogan of "Light Up Tomorrow", which signifies Gwangju's identity derived from its name meaning 'the city of light', the Gwangju Universiade will be represented by an emblem called the "Wings of light" and the mascot "Nuribi".

The emblem symbolizes soaring with passion, dreams, and harmony on the wings of five oceans (blue wings) and six continents (red wings).

Nuribi is an angel of light who spreads the hope of creativity throughout the world. The name Nuribi is a combination of the Korean words 'nuri' for world and 'bi' for fly.

The logo of the 2015 Summer Universiade is the "Wings of Light". It's unique 'U' letter shape resembles the Universiade Games. Overall, it represents the passion of athletes compete against all odds beyond limits, the dynamic atmosphere of sport, and the harmony of nations around the world.
