The final set of two “Greenland during WWII” stamps released!

Greenland Post issued the fifth part of the long-running series “Greenland during WWII” stamps are devoted to the liberation of Denmark from Nazi-German occupation, and the re-establishment of communication and trade between Denmark and Greenland.

The first stamp features a photograph of the Danish flag flying from a flagpole on the day of the liberation of Denmark, and a host of people standing around the building, celebrating the end of the war. The item shows a group of Greenlandic scouts, as they are celebrating with their bright, white sweaters, and their flags.

The second stamp depicts the return of the freight ship that sailed between Denmark and Greenland. The return of the ship signaled a revival of the transit from Denmark to Greenland that was severed as Denmark was occupied by German forces. The item shows the return of the ship, and the artist has depicted a large group of locals, who celebrate the return, by coming down to the seaside, greeting the ship, as it returns after years away.
