A cover that survived the Hindenburg crash to be sold by Cherrystone. The unique lot is to fetch more than $10,000

FindYourStampsValue.com is delighted to announce that Cherrystone is to auction one of the most interesting philatelic items - a partially burned cover which survived the 1937 Hindenburg crash. The lot will be offered during the auction that will take place on 17th and 18th July in New York City. The sale will also feature stamps and postal history of the world, including United States, Great Britain and British Commonwealth, Russia, Europe and more, along with numerous large lots and collections.

Hindenburg is a German zeppelin that made sixty-three flights. It met tragedy May 6, 1937. Attempting to land at Lakehurst, New Jersey, the giant airship burst into flames near the mooring mast. Amazingly, nearly two-thirds of the passengers and crew survived. The cause of the disaster is not known. The cover that survived during this disaster was sent to Ann Arbor, Mich and has a notarized affidavit from the addressee along with a Philatelic Foundation certificate. The cover also contains several 12½¢ Mercury stamps from the 1937 Netherlands set that was issued to celebrate the planned Fifth Boy Scout World Jamboree. The unique philatelic item is being offered by Cherrystone with a starting bid of $10,000. But there are chances that the lot will fetch much more!
