Denmark Post introduced a great souvenir sheet consisting of three stamps, where the two of them carry the common EUROPA seal in the top right corner. The two EUROPA stamps depict Copenhagen and Hamburg, respectively, as these were the starting and ending points for the very first postal route in Denmark.
The route marked the birth of the Danish postal service, and it was initiated by the Danish King Christian IV, who started the postal service by Royal decree in 1624. At that time, the postal service consisted of nine postal routes, with the Copenhagen-Hamburg route being by far the most important one.
The souvenir sheet depicts a map of Denmark in the background, along with a recreation of the Royal decree. The two stamps, featuring some of the popular features of the city they depict, are accompanied by a third stamp, depicting one of the horseback-riding postal couriers - the very first Danish mailmen.
